Wood Job

Wood Job, a Japanese comedy film composed and directed by Shinobu Yaguchi in 2014. The film is inspired by Shion Miura’s novel, Kamusari NaaRi Chu (Shen Qu NaanaaRi Chi Chang ). The film features Shota Itani and Masami Nagasawa. The main theme song of the film, “Happiest Fool”, was performed by Maia Hirasawa. The film premiered in the month of May, 2014. The film made its North American debut at LA Eigafest 2014.

The story revolves around Yuki Hirano who is who is played by Shota Mosttani. After failing the university entrance exam and being rejected by his lover and his girlfriend, he decides to enroll in a forester’s training program after spotting a gorgeous female model (Nagasawa) on an advertisement leaflet. He’s determined to stay even though he would prefer to quit. A lot of other participants leave from the program. While initially skeptical, the community takes the newcomer in as a member of their own.

The job is much more challenging than he expected and is placed under his hard-working boss Hideaki. Yuki grows to respect the forests and the customs of the community, opening his eyes to the world beyond the city of a huge size. He follows the woman from the pamphlet, whose beauty prompted him to take the leap. The film ends by introducing the Onbashira Festival which involves riding huge logs down the hill.
